Fabric U-Joint Discs

Has anybody converted the tailshaft from fabric to the modern type universals? Our 29 Tourer has a bad vibration at 45mph and above which I think is due to the hme made(?) fabric items.

Hi Patrick, I do make and supply the original u joint discs for the 4 cyl. Plymouths. It take five per set. 2 in the front and 3 in the rear. The cost is in the US$165.00 range. Cost of the materials very. Holes and center exact. I have supplied many 4 cyl. Plymouth and Maxwell owner along with the model 50 and 52 Chryslers and Studebaker. If interested give me a email at

Fabric U-Joint Discs
Does anyone know a supplier of new fabric U-joint disks used on 28 and 29 plymouths?
A while back the Plymouth Bulletin (the club magazine) had an article about that. My notes from the article indicate that Chrysler part number 41262 (Universal joint disc (Q, U, 30-U up to 1561283 U.S. built and all Canadian built.)) could be gotten at your John Deere dealer where the part number is L373T (for a 1940 John Deere LA tractor). I registered with John Deere online and they still list the part, but the list price is $120 each!  That's $600 for a set of 5!  That seems awfully expensive for fabric disks.

I paid $75.00 for the full set on e-bay two years ago.

We actually made them from scratch. Long, tedious, smelly, but they work ok. You need a band saw, hole saw, and a drill. Oh, a lot of patience.

Send me a drawing with dimensions and I can make them for about $80-100 for a set of five. Thanks, Wayne
