Restoring rubber threshold strips (FYI)

I sprayed PB blaster on both sides and cleaned them at least 8 times(+). It actually made the rubber supple again. When I am done I will Por15 the metal side and maybe try some car wax on the rubber. One of the metal sides is really rusted out and comes away from the rubber, any ideas on how to rebuild/strenghten it? I was thinking maybe some JB weld? I am happy at the possibility of being able to reuse these parts now. Camille
