41 Plymouth runningboard moldings.

A set of running board moldings are almost impossible to find. I know a guy who had a set he would not sell for $800.00, I seen damaged ones sell for in the hundreds. Do what I did. I had a local heating shop make me a set out of thin stainless. They used the original has a guide and were able to bend channels on the top and bottom edges. I rounded the ends myself. The channels had be cut and compressed to make the slight curves at the back and front. They used the thin gage stainless with the white sticky paper on it to prevent scratches. The paper peels of when done. The shop ordered this stainless to make light reflectors for their shop. I posted pictures of my car on  a previous  post titled " My 41 is done" under general category. The molding shows up good in the side picture.

But see in these photos Bob...the short pointed molding at the bottom of each fender. If a 41 SD has these, doesn't it mean the car should have the full length runningboard moldings on it as well?

I am not sure that all '41 Plymouths had running board mouldings, looking at photos, I see that some do and some don't.

Check with Dave at Fat Fendered Relics, as he may have the running board mouldings if they are available.  He is darn good to deal with and very helpful also.

Well, Being brand new to owning a 41 Plymouth, I am quickly learning how difficult it is to find parts for the 'ol girl. First it was front wheel cylinders...now I'm starting to think about some of the cosmetics. After looking at 41 Plymouth photos, I now realize my car has no runningboard moldings. It still has the short ones on the bottom of the fenders but the long ones on the rockers are long gone. My running boards have no signs of any holes in them either so they must be replacements. I've learned that they're basically all gone...and if you can find a set they're out of sight. Has anyone substituted another molding that's easier to find?...say rocker moldings or body side moldings from a later vehicle. How about from the 50's Chevys that have reproduction parts available. Any knowledge would be greatly appreciated...Thanks, Bob
