In looking up the paint colors for one of my Mopars, I tried to use the numbers with a local paint store. He said he couldn't go back that far (49). So I contacted PPG and they told me that the numbers never change, But the begining letters do.

Ditzler paint is now PPG for those who don't know. So if you want to get the same color use the PPG codes ahead of the numbers. I haven't tried this yet, but will call the paint store today and see what I get told by them. DYL, DAL & DQE are no longer used by PPG. DDL is Acrylic Lacquer, DAR Acrylic Enamel & CLV Acrylic Urethane are a few examples. Pricing is upwards of $200.00 per gallon.

Also most paint mixed per instructions will yeild 1 1/2 gallons of paint. But chek your mix instructions to be sure.

For a 4 door PJ Deluxe with a trunk, plan on using 1.5 gallons to give it a good 3 coatings.

If by chance you're still looking for paint colors, check out the following company: www.autocolorlibrary.com.  They recreated the original color of my dad's '35 Plymouth--gunmetal light poly.  We had enough traces of the original paint to compare the two and it's a very close match--came out great. 

Thanks Jim. I found the sites very helpful. It looks to me that my car is vista gray. It's also the only color with a vermillon pinstripe. It would be great if you can send me a pic of the trunk. right now I have nothing to go by for reference so anything at this point would be a great help. Thank you.

Thanks Jim for your reply. I thought for sure that color was the original shade. There is even remnants of the stripe. I would greatly appreciate it if you could list the colors. In the meantime I'll try to look for the build sheet or get one through Chrysler. 

Rich - my guess is your car was repainted at some time in its life.  I went thru my 35 paint chips and there is no color that would match either description you give.  They were all dark colors and there is no way any of them would fade to the shade you mention.  If you'd like, I can list the paint names for you and give you a description.  If you get a copy of the Service Build Card from Chrysler Historical, it will have the paint code listed that the car was built as.....

I just aquired a 1935 PJ and I want to paint it the original color. The color looks yellow-ivoryish or like the color of a manilla folder. I was wondering if anyone knew what paint formula I should use to duplicate this color.
