John, I believe he can. His email address is   . He is also listed in the back of the POC Bulletin under Services Offered.

Tod, I disassembled my engine for rebuilding. So far I rebuilt the transmission and attached it to the bell housing. The block that I had, I found out is a 49 block but the transmission is from a 35. I'll be getting my correct 35 block this summer when I make a trip out to Kansas.

I finally got my clutch spring back from Kurt Oelmann. He did a nice job on the spring with the correct angles on the ends. Here's a photo with the spring in place.

If I am seeing things correctly, it looks like you assembled the transmission to the engine/bell housing without the clutch disk or pressure plate just to take the photo. I guess I am too lazy to do that.

Thanks for the clear explanatory view that shows everything so clearly.

I wonder if he can make the anti-rattle springs for the clutch release fingers for the 28-29 Clutch?

John, I believe the spring is not the same for 29 as it is for 35.  Glenn had mentioned earlier that his spring for his 29 is totally different than mine. I agree with him. In the 34-36 Maintenance Manual, the diagram shows a longer spring for the 34 model. The diagram for 35 and 36 show the shorter spring.

Rich - If you were referring to the clutch throwout bearing return spring, it is the same spring used on Dodge Power Wagons.  I got one for my 29 Plymouth from Vintage Power Wagons for $5 and it was an exact replacement for my worn out one.   Their part number is CC573318.  web site:

Todd, the part number for the spring is 633234. In the photo, I believe David was talking about the sleeve on the left. The sleeve is clipped to the shifting fork by two curly springs, one on each ear. This one came out of a '37 Plymouth. The one on the right is from a '35 and has the hole for the spring. I want to use my 35 sleeve because it has the external grease cup. The '37 doesn't have this.

later models did not use a spring. I put my 35 together without one.  12 years and 15000 miles later it all works just fine.

The 1936-48 parts book shows part type code 6-20-14 "Clutch Release Bearing Sleeve and Guide Spring" for all years. In group 6-E, he 1934 parts book shows a "Spring (sleeve pull back)" under the "Clutch release bearing sleeve" entry. The 1928-33 parts book shows springs for the 1930 through 1933 years.

So it sure looks to me like the factory thought there should be a spring there in both earlier and later years.

The part numbers are quite low for all of the applications and it seems they used the same number for several years at a time. So it could be that the correct one for 1935 was also used either earlier or later. But I don't have a 1935 book to let me know the number to look for.

Thanks all, for the replies. I did find a similiar spring at a local hardware store. It's close. It needs some minor modifications on the ends. There was also an ad in the POC from someone who makes springs. I contacted him and he says he's in the process of moving right now and says he can make one. I'm waiting to hear back from him. Interesting Dave, I recall seeing something like that in later models. I'll hqve to see what I have in the spare parts box and see if what I have will work.

Rich, The clutch spring I have from the 29 model looks entirely different from the picture you posted. I haven't seen one like that around here. Good Luck with your search.  I sure would not put it together without a spring, if nothing else just to keep it from rattling and letting the throw out ride on the clutch pressure plate fingers.

Rich,

Do you have a good hardware store in your area that might have a large display of various springs?

If so, you could take the spring and compare it, we have a Ace hardware store that has a great selection of springs.

Hope this helps,
Bob

Sorry to get back to you so late. Lew-I tried a Model A spring and it is too large. I'll try to include a pic. The spring connects the throwout bearing sleeve to the main shaft seal.

Part no. may be close to 633686 which is for the '36 .The'35/'36 Ply tranny and throwout bearing/sleeve is somewhat similar in design to a Ford Model A or '32 B engine. May want to try one of the springs (about 3" long or so)  for the Ford set up which are plentiful and inexpensive from many vendors such as Snyders in Ohio, Brattons or Macs, etc.

The return spring I would have is only aproximately 3 inches long. I did not get out to the snowbank today, because we are in another blizzard, I will still look at it as soon as this subsides a bit

Rich, I found another spring in my parts book for the P7 and P8. CLUTCH RELEASE OVERCENTER SPRING (8-1/4" long - 24 coils.)

Which of these are you looking for?

I have a 29 model Trans, Bell housing, Brake and clutch pedals, and the clutch brg return spring.
If you think the spring is the same on the 29 model let me know, I will mail it to you. No charge.
Only problem, I have to dig it out of a snow bank in the morning. I will let you know then if it is STILL attached. lol Then you can send me an address to send it to.

I'm looking for a clutch sleeve pull back spring for my 35 Plymouth. I don't know if it's the same for other years.
