1940 Plymouth overdrive trans???

The overdrive you describe was available on Chrysler but will work in a Plymouth. The front case is , to the best of my knowledgr slightly different.  Same is true of the more popular R 10 found in Plymouths 52-56 and will bolt right into a 40.

As far as I know (from this forum) You need another trans with a hole for a connection rod or something similar. Ask George Asche : he is expert!

Was there an overdrive option availble for 1940 plymouths back then??  I've been reading a bit about the R-7 unit.  Looking for a bit of info about it and would it work in my car.  Can I buy just the overdrive and add it to my trans or would I need to by a used one with the R-7 already on it??
