41 Won't start

Glad to hear that you got the bugs all worked out of the starter, now hopefully once the weather warms up you can put lots of miles on her.

Car is now running.

Here is what I did. I first called the rebuilder to make sure that he rebuilt it for a 6V and not 12V. He said that he did what was ever printed on the side data plate. Well I took out the starter out for the 3rd timeand? it was marked 6v.

Took the strater to my workbench to test it and NOTHING. S*&# now what do I do.

So I took the starter back to the rebuilder. He looked it over, took off the starter switch and it turned overed perfectly.

Know what was wrong. Yes it was the starter switch. . You see when I took it up to be rebuilt I just took up the starter to him and not the strater switch. I didn't see any need to because I bought a NOS replacement. Turns out that that switch was not making contact - after a few adjustment it was now working fine.

Put it back in the car and she is running again.

Carmen, the jump wire should be suficcient to turn it if thick enough. And does the starter have a strong earth connection?

Did You get the same pinion and isn?t it blocked bey the flywheel gears? I once had larger Flywheel gearring which blocked and had to be turned down.

What size are your cables? Sounds like a stupid question, but I took the starter from my pickup back twice to the starter shop because it was doing exactly what your story tells. Cables the size of your thumb-they can make them up for u at NAPA from their stock- made it work like a champ.

Well I got my starter back and yes it really did need a rebuilt. Looks like at somepoint in time someone tried to start it with a 12V's.

Any I put it back in the car and tuned the key - NOTHING . I even junp the wire from the battery to the starter. - NOTHING. Before I take it back out is ther somnething that I am missing???? A wire that I forget to hook up???

Any ideals????

As an update, turns out the starter is shot. Took it out and already it is the shop for a rebuilt. Thanks fopr all the in-put. Carmen

Panadom is right, and look if the Dash V- meter keeps its reading when turning the key.

Time to get your voltmeter out. Check for voltage at the starter.

Carmen,

try to CAREFULLY bridge the starter solenoid with a huge wire to move the starter motor.
If it turns, either solenoid or lock are guilty.

If You hear the Click when turning the key to start, try bridging too (solenoid works, contacts don?t).
To check the solenoid, just put a 6V lamp to ground and starter pole of solenoid.

Last week I went to start my 41 it cranked and as I was playing with the choke to keep it running it stalled. When to start it again and NOTHING. Now I now that the battery is fully charged, I can turn on my lights and blow my horn. I even see the gas needle more. But when I step on the starter nothing. So I replaced the starter Switch with a NOS one. Well I put it on today and still nothing. Can my starter be shot? It is as if someone disconnected power to the starter - ofcouse that is not the case - I checked. Any ideas?
