Help I D theses parts

Just getting to the recent posts, and on my '36, the # 1 parts appear to be as posted (with the most recent pictures showing the 1st body bolt). There were evidently rubber seals that attached to the small holes with rivets to cover the panel gaps similar to other rubber seals and welting between fenders, inner fender panels and body. My car also has engine splash pans which usually got thrown out after the first major engine service. All these to help keep road dirt out of the engine bay.

one more, i'm missing my passenger side 'guard'   btw if you aren't restoring the car, i'd like to buy the passenger side from you. Probably don't need 'em on a hot rod.

That makes sense. I have put those parts up to almost every panel except the front bolt. You wouldnt have a picture would you? So I understand this, the notch faces outward? Thanks

I think I found your #1. On my 36 these are mini mud guards that go between the frame and the body directly under the first body mount bolt. that is what the notch is for.  When in place it covers a small hole between the body and the engine bay where mud might flick up.

The notch faces the away from the car on either side.

Thanks. I only have one and no other piece to it. That would make cense. i still have no clue to what # 1 and 3 are.

The photo is very similar to what is described as a "fender & lamp guard" in my Harrison catalog.

As such, it would probably be mounted on the first inboard bolt from the end of a front bumper. Hinged ones were availabe for the rear bumper, so that the trunk lid could open. Normally two would be used, one on each first inboard bolt from the driver & passenger side of the bumper.

These aftermarket guards were sometimes used in combination with grille guards, which consisted of two of what you have pictured, connected by two or three horizontal bars.

Apparently, they were installed by folks who desired extra protection for their grilles, driving lights, and trunk lids.

A picture would be a big help.

I have a December 1940 parts catalog from Harrison Wholesale Co., of Chicago.

It has two pages of "aftermarket" bumper and grille guards for almost all makes of cars. They offered parts for cars going back to Model A Fords, not just the 1940 models.

Chances are, if that's what you have, I can find something similar or identical in the catalog.

It's possible that you have an optional, or maybe even "aftermarket" center bumper guard.

Is it possible that on my 36, that it had a center bumper? The man I purchased the car from gave me a crome center piece. I didnt think it went on the car because I have never seen one in any of the pictures that I had. I took it back to him thinking that it belong to one of his other cars and he told me to keep it. I'll take a picture and see if any one here can ID that also. It may not even go to the car. Still scratching my head, Thanks

On page 221 of the '36-42 Plymouth Condensed Master Parts List, I found an illustrated part that looks similar (but not identical) to your #3.

It is called Front & Rear bumper center buffer plate clamp.

The part number for P-1 and P-2 is 679136.

I couldn't find anything close to your #1.

I could be and am probably wrong , but #1 looks like it could fit under the rear fenders to help hold the tail light stalks

Thanks Pat. I was wondering if #1 goes to the inner fenders or the sheet metal in between. I dont have much to go by and have been norrowing my parts down to a few.

I don't recall seeing any of the parts in your photo on  my '36 convertible. So far, I have looked at the illustrations in the '36 Plymouth Parts List, but haven't seen anything that matches.

Tomorrow, I will go through the illustrations in the '36-42 Condensed Master Parts List (much larger book).

Ed, thats funny, I like it. Go - your right, thats what that is for. I believe that #3 is for the spare tire in the trunk but, am not sure. I think #1 goes to the inner front fenders. Any thoughts? I bought my car in pieces and am getting down to assembeling the big parts. Thanks.

CG, #3 seems to be the cover of the propellershaft?s universal housing (bell) housing. The 4 ears bend around the bell?s flange to keep the spring (which centers the shaft lengthwise) plus gasket together while mounting, The ears tend to break easily, so with the universal rebuild sets comes a new set. The ears come flat with the cover. First part left side.
