Oil bath air cleaner oil???

The best oil for an air cleaner is a conversion to the use of a modern "paper" element. The oil bath system was never that effective in removing very small particles from the incoming air. That's why modern elements were developed. The conversion is generally quite easy and no one will know of the change unless the air cleaner is disassembled.

Have used 30 up to 50 wt. If you are not a purist, check your autoparts store for a modern paper element type. I found one at a NAPA store that fit close to the inside dia.of the housing. Found no noticeable change in performance.

If you have got a manual for your car  that is what is reccomended .

I actually like to use ATF, and you definitely won't find that in the service manual. :)  Any oil should be fine.  I guess if I was purist, I would tell you to use 20w50, but whatever ya got handy will work just fine, even vegetable oil would work.

What ever you have decided to put in the engine is more than adequate for the Aircleaner.  There is absolutly no need for anything special or any specific viscosity to be used in the Oil Bath, unless of course you have dirty air with special needs.

Hi--- what kind of oil is to be used in a 1953 Plymouth oil bath air cleaner, I know I should know this one, but I just recived one. I have repainted it, and am ready to put on my car. any kind or should there only be one kind (oil) used??? This is the smaller one not the big one. Don't know if it makes a diff. Thanks for any help.
