1940 - P10 Speedometer

 :)  Thats something I 've done many times.... 1st thing is remove the two screws from behind .. the insides will come out... next hold the generator (the aluminum rotating part. )its the part the speedo end connects to... once you are holding it (stoping it from rotating).... with your other hand use your finger nails and grab the center of the pointer .. turn and pull upward ... and you should have it apart! then remove the tiny screws and you can have the dial to do as you like!... To install reverse ... just make sure you hold the generator in the zero position and install the pointer and if necessary adjust it to zero...  For your info... there is a NOS dial on ebay right now ... the whole speedo comes on ebay fairly often.. I have removed the speedometer to try to lube it, so it will be easier to turn with the speedometer cable when I get it back together.  With the speedometer on the workbench, I noticed that the background color behind the clear plastic was very dirty.  I decided to clean the background paint with a little alcohol on a q-tip by reaching behind the metal ring and the clear plastic circle.  Well,  the #%u*^f@ paint desolved, smeared something awful.  Oh Well...   I'll just remove the metal ring and clear plastic circle and repaint the background.  Big mistake.  While lifting on the ring I snapped the metal ring loose from the plastic circle, what next..?

My question now is...   Is there some way to remove the front parts (plastic ring and center metal piece) so I can paint the background..?
