I will look for the those tags later today. Even if this car is NOT a real Staff Car it is still a great car and my intention is to restore it as it once was. Wheather it is or isn't doesn't matter to me. I have completed and currently use in parades a 1945 MB Jeep & trailer, a 1954 Dodge M37 troop carrier and am working on a M715 5/4 ton truck. This way I will have WWII, Korea and VietNam wars covered. I will use my 1941 Plymouth for very - very important VIP"S. I would still like to hear from other P12 owners and see how their cars look. Please keep me posted with as much information as you can.

Carmen.. If your car is a true 'staff car/military', especially a US Navy vehicle it will have identification tags attached to the left 'A' pillar, dash and engine side of the firewall. These tags are usually referred to as 'DSO tags', I believe. The tags will show the date of manufacture, contract number and the Navy serial number. If there are no ID tags and/or the holes where they were attached, the car most likely is a fake.

I don't claim to be an expert on military vehicles, however, I do know two guys that have unmolested ex-military cars, one is a '42 Packard, (Navy) the other is a '41 Plym, (Army) both of these cars have the identification tags. I also know guys that have ex-military Jeeps, weapon carriers and trucks....Bill

I was thinking the same thing. The title I got shows that there was only 1 owner. Don't get me wrong it needs some work like the inside and a few bumps, the wheel well in the trunck has to be replaced, but all in all it starts right up and stops very well. All the lights work and all the windows are there and working. Even the heater works.? The last owner went through the brakes and replace everything that was need. Does anyone else have any pictures? I would really like to see their inside and how they finished theirs.

Man even if its a clone and not an original staff car, I woudn't mess with it to much. If it is a survivor in that condition, just clean it up go through the mechanicals and drive it. What a conversation piece it would be. Unless it was a prop car from the Movie 1941.

Carmen - interesting car. From the photos it looks in pretty decent shape. What's the story with the lettering? Was it a Navy car or did someone add that later in its life? Plymouth did build a special fleet of staff cars for the military but they were all P11 models and had a different serial number sequence. Although there are "clones" around, I am aware of only one true staff car existing, an unrestored car in the northern USA.

There were actually 3 models in 1941 - the P11, P11D & P12. The P11 was the "Plymouth" - the P11D was the "Deluxe" Plymouth and the P12 was the "Special Deluxe" Plymouth - top of the line car. The differences were in trim levels and equipment. The P12 outsold the others by a wide margin. Go to the links button on this site's home page and look for "Plymouth - The First Decade". Tod Fitch, who runs the site, has already posted a link to the page a couple of posts down....you might also want to go to the club store button on the home page and check to see if any back issues are still available from the club that deal specifically with the 1941 Plymouths. ALL back issues are available on a recently completed DVD set, from issue # 1 to issue # 286 - 48 years of the Plymouth Bulletin.

Doing a car is all new to me. Can someone tell what the difference is betweem a P11 and a P12. What does one have that the other does not have? Is there a site that already list that information?

Serial number 11377363 is for a P12 Special Deluxe manufactured in 1941 in Detroit. See:

Just got a 1941 P11, the serial number that is stamped on the passenger side door jam is "11377363" can anyone tell me about this car as to when and where it was manufactored? It only has 57,600 miles and fro the condidtion of the car I am sure it is orginal.
