Dear Camille, I put in new windshield glasses in Spring 97 without using the ugly and sticky black sealant.. In August 97 I got one only rain in my Switzerland / Ascona Holidays. In autumn I rechecked the glasses because orf a hint from my mechanics: I found the window frames and glasses completely wet!. So, I refitted all with sealant. Without sealant, these gaps will always stay wet and rust any metal around out. Greetings! Go
(PS: the sticky sealant was very easy to clean up after it dried)

all you need to use is a contact adhesive just to make sure it stays in place . here in NZ  i use a product called Ados f2, which i think is a US sourced product , i use the same glue when installing  door and trunk rubbers etc.

Should I use any sort of adhesive when putting on my new cowl vent gasket? Have not posted for awhile but still plugging away (1 step forward, 2 steps back)? ;). Here are some updated pictures of the progress.

Just getting ready to reassemble the hood. All engine work is complete, she is running beautifully, just not drivable.
PS on page 4 is a picture of a mystery part that never got labeled, any ideas of where she goes? Thanks, Camille
