Riding around

I had the 30 U out yesterday, People just can't quit talking about the wooden wheels. This car is pretty much original as far as running works and wiring. It's just fun to ride in and think what it was like 77 years ago

Seriously, happy (recent) birthday; my second car was a '48 Plymouth (first car was a '47 Plymouth).

Actually Bob?, I?m also amazed by wooden spokes.? ?I really enjoy the car shows but I have to admit that getting out on the road with these old cars is truly a fun experience.? The amazement and appreciation received from the general public is truly rewarding.? ?Judging is based on the emotion of the moment and as you pointed out most are trilled by the chance to see one of these old cars doing what they were designed to do?, and that is drive.

I hope to get the 48 out and about but the end of 2008.? We both hit our 60th birthday in September and hopefully we will both be cruising the streets of DC looking for a burger joint and a good jukebox.

It IS fun to see people's reactions to these old cars.? ?We usually get waves, smiles & thumbs-up---even from young kids.?
They sometimes yell "Like your old car, mister."? ?Usually at least one looker when filling with gas.? Most older adults have some type story about a similar vehicle in their youth? ?A win-win deal for all.? (I bet some are really amazed about wooden spokes.)

Hay Doug,

You are right about the wooden wheels.? People seem to really get a kick out of seeing an old car on the street and I always get comments about the wooden wheels.? My response is that cars went down hill when automobile manufactures went to steel wheels.

I have found that most people guess Model A or something Ford.? When I tell them it?s a Chrysler Plymouth their eyes usually light up.? Even the Ford guys are tickled pink to see the old Plymouth putting around the neighborhood.

On a recent drive, a supped up pickup trucked pulled up next to me and the driver commented that it was good to see that the old girl wasn?t roded.? I agreed as he burned rubber with the flash of the green light.?

I love seeing an old car on the road.? I don?t know why except that the sight brings me back to different times.? ?An old car in the middle of a daily drive gives one a chance to pause and think upon what came before.? That is before the traffic?

I truly believe that cars in museums are great to look at but finding one pulling into the local fast food mart is an unbelievable joy for all to see.

Keep them rolling?, after all that?s what they were intended for.

We took the 30 U out yesterday afternoon, My wife rides in the back seat with our 90 pound boxer, We stop in the next town from us and filled up with gas. A couple of guys came over asking what kind of car it is, they couldn't belive it had wooden wheels. After fueling up, This car cranks realy well, I started it and drove off they just stood there and watch us drive away. We went down the main drag. I get the biggest kick out of the way people turn and look. Of course thes big boxers head hanging out the window is a site. We  turned and went out through the country and came back home. The more I drive this car the better it gets.
