your problem of jumping out of second is usually due to wear in the bearing between the input shaft and the mainshaft, or in the synchronizers.  Sometimes it can be aggravated by misalignment at the bellhousing and or a worn pilot bushing. It is rarely found to be a linkage problem. Look for other discussion of this issue about a year back.

'41 ply 4 door. My car wouldn't stay in second gear. I shift to second and as long as I'm on the gas it will stay in second but it is slowly slipping down. Let of the gas and it pops out of second. Is there any adjustment that may help before blaming the transmission? Looked under the car and moved the shifter (covered with a rubber boot) around, but no change. I had the clutch rebuilt a couple of years ago. This is the vacuum type shifter lever.
Also I need a horn for the '4, mine don't work anymore.
