If you look at the point where the cup seats in the bore you will likely see two small cut-outs set 180 degrees apart that expose the base of the cup. Use a non-hardened drift and tap the exposed cup alternately in each cut out. Hit only hard enough to move the cup slightly, but not hard enough to cause it to cock in the bore. If that happens you can damage the bore.

To install the new cup grind the outer surface of the old one down enough so it falls easily into the bore, and then after carfully tapping the new cup down level with the top of the bore (use a brass drift for this) place the old cup face down on the new one and use a hammer and drift to finish seating it.

I am rebuilding the steering box for my '41. The the upper worm bearing cup seems to be seated very firmly in the steering box casting. Any suggestion on how to get it out withoug messing anything up? The cup is scored and needs to be replaced or else I would just leave it.
