Go Fleiter

BOYS; LETS STAY COOL.
The POC is democracy concerning membership, eligibility etc, so keep original for this.

This forum can be individualism, so do what You like to do with Your car.

Here, a lot of hot-rod-planning owners had been coverted  originality, which I too like most.
I like to see the other extrem too -  plus all between, more or less.

Who doesn?t accept some boy?s wild projects, should see the chance to show the alternative of originality to him, remember the converts!

Greetings! Go

This attitude will kill the POC.? It has already prompted me not to renew my dues in the club.?

Dear Mr. 57Plymouth,

Don?t let the radicals drive you away.? ?Reason and tolerance will eventually prevail.?

After all, it is suppose to be a hobby not a reason to rage war.? ?

PS? Nice choice in automobiles?

I thought the POC administrator did a great job of clearing this issue up. I don't know why you would be mad at the club. We can't agree with every opinion of ever member and should welcome comments from all members.

Thank You Ron!

I am glad to hear that you are staying close to stock and that the wonderful people who visit this board made a difference.

Plymouth people are the best car people - of course I am just a bit prejudiced here.

for what it is worth...when i first started reading on this site my intentions for my old coupe were undecided... i was thinking a pretty easy way to a neat street rpd, you know the drill ...camaro sub frame a fuel injected small block auto  w/ over drive, etc....after joining here and  talking to so many  helpfull ,just plain nice people.  i have  decided to try to do as close as i can a resto on the car. it was mostly becuase of all of you and the help i found here... there  are very few decent sites for these cars , and honest people are even more scarce.
My project will take a couple of years, and in that time i will be driving it and enjoying it . no trailer queen. just a neat old fun car......

my thanks to all here for your help , advice and interest .   Ron

Oops...

Hay if I would have gotten a ticket I would have asked the officer to write clearly so I could have it framed.? Probably take it to court and claim that the 79 year old speedometer might have been a little off.

Busted..., Chet...

That's pretty funny, Ed.

That's what I did (press hard) for a living from 1969-1993.

Thanks for the laugh.

Old man?s car you say?!? Plugging around at 45 mph?!? ?

Well Jim.., I?ll have you know that just yesterday I was blazing down the road at 50 mph for nearly 3 minutes.., and I might add.., in a 35 mile-per-hour speed zone.?

Back when I was editor of the Plymouth Bulletin I made the comment that anyone who didn't send their ads in typewritten form should own a Ford.  I never heard the end of that one, either!  I stand corrected -- and remember, my walker is faster than your walker!!!!

I passed two Soccer Moms and one brushed her hair over her right ear and gave me a wink as I passed her?? If you have ever driven in Virginia you would know that Soccer Moms are a terror in the late afternoon.? Some drive high performance Mini Vans? Others have those dang SUVs with the big sixes.?

Personally I think you could have phrased the statement better, For example? ??rather than a 4-cylinder vehicle which is appreciated more by someone with a mature and refined taste for classic automobiles?.?

Well once my back is better and I can bend over to grease the wheels on my walker I might have to pay you a visit and bop you one with my cane.

If this is the same young man I've been corresponding with, he thought perhaps he had the first Plymouth (Canadian built) but its not (mid-year '28).  And the photos he sent show its
not a "real" car - just a body sitting in his yard ( a rumble seat coupe, not a roadster).  Could it be restored.  Anything with enough time and money can be restored.  Would this body
fit on some other chassis and still look like a Plymouth?  Yes....and probably a lot easier done than a restoration.  Which will be worth more?  Who knows?  But it will save one more Plymouth from destruction.  I agree, the club is based on authentic restoration but sometimes thats just not feasible.  And frankly, a young man is probably more intersted in a hot rod that will burn the tires for a mile rather than a 4-cylinder "old man's car" plugging along at 45 mph.  But who knows, perhaps he'll do an outstanding job of restoring the car
to "pro-antique"!

Dave,

I spoke with hillbillyhotrod and basically he really doesn?t have a complete car, no frame, motor, or other components just the skins of a 28 Plymouth Rumble Seat Roadster.? ?Sometimes even with the old Plymouths there just isn?t enough left to actually bring the old car back to life.

At minimum when he is finished there will be another Plymouth on the road.., well maybe 20% of an old Modal Q back out there for people to appreciate and it will probably be a screamer.? I think the old Ford ?T? buckets could use some quality competition.? What better then a Plymouth ?Q?

10 years ago, I thought seriously about street rodding my 1928 Plymouth.  I was convinced by my family not to do it and I bought a Plymouth Prowler instead.  I think we should encourage people in this hobby whether thay are purists or not.  These places should be about the common bond we have in the cars, regardless of the style.

i am writing this in small letters because I am whispering... the offending statement noted below is in all caps and red type on the POC discussion board disclaimer page. here is a copy of the statement that I just cut and pasted...

"THE OFFICIAL POLICY OF THE PLYMOUTH OWNERS CLUB, INC. IS TO PROMOTE THE CORRECT AND AUTHENTIC RESTORATION OF THE PLYMOUTH BRAND AND TO DISCOURAGE ANY ACTIVITIES, IDEAS OR PHILOSOPHIES CONTRARY TO THESE AIMS."

Having said that, I agree, let's change their minds...not send them away.

James,

Yes the Club's policy is to promote restoration and preservation but this board is open to ALL Plymouth owners - this is a discussion board and we need to remember that discussion does not include yelling or personal attacks!

I WILL NOT TOLERATE IT - see that is yelling and to put it in red is bad form.? Please be careful how you use Caps - the internet has it own form of etiquette and younger users take things differently sometimes.

As far as Pro Street Plymouth's yes the do violate the club policy and we would not allow them on the show field at a meet.? By opening this board to ALL Plymouth owners maybe a few will change their minds about what to do with their Old Plymouth - I know a few that have because we are here.? You will not change a person's mind by telling him or her to "go away you bother me".

This board can only exist if we keep this in mind, if a posting is offensive (bad taste, pornographic, mean or confrontational) it will be removed and the poster suspended or removed.? If it is about some Plymouth you don't personally like be it Street Rod, Pro Street, Low Rider, ignore it if you can't say something constructive.? The web is big and this board is about Plymouths - I would hate to see a significant old Plymouth turned into a street rod but yelling at a guy for doing it will not help anyone.

If the club makes the decision to restrict membership of this internet board to ONLY paid dues club members, it is going to be a huge headache and I personally don't think the best for the club.? We need to attract anyone who owns a Plymouth brand auto and try to use concrete reasons to keep your Plymouth stock - not just because the club say so.

I allowed hillbillyhotrod to join because - first he has an old (possibly rare) Plymouth.? I hoped he would be greeted with restrained discussion about why he is choosing to make a street rod out of a possible rare car - I personally would not like to see that happen but I can't stop him by yelling at him and telling him he is not wanted here.? If we can't stop him, maybe we could get some needed parts from him to restore another old Plymouth.

There has always been this debate amongst old car people - preserve or modify - it will always be there - I wish more people would take the attitude that Dennis Gauge has - you can tell from his show on the Speed network that he loves cars - he goes to shows and checks out the rods the restored cars and promotes them all - we need to keep the CLUB pure and the judging on origninality but the web is promotion/advertising and by telling someone they are not wanted here is poor advertising for the club.

Hey,
Check out http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4022&highlight=34+plymouth+pro+street

It's about 17 pages of mopar guys posting pics of various dodges and plymouths, some from the 30's. I don't recall a pro-street in there specifically, but there are many street rodded and rat rod early Plymouth and dodges.  It's kind of a taboo subject around here since mission of the POC is to restore the cars to near original or original looking.
