Data book says 17 gallons.  My convertible has the same tank as my sedan and they both hold 13.66 Imperial Gallons which is 17 USG.

P 23 Convertible:
Yesterday, I put 65,34 liters in my tank, the needle still floating a bit.
Question: my Service manual says: tank P 15 - P24 holds 17 Gallons, which would be exactly what I put in.
Well, I fill the filling tube until the gas gun tilts. Have I a bigger gas volume or tank or did I only have had good luck not to end stalled....?

17 U.S. gallons is 65.96 litres, and that is what the tank holds when it is bone dry.? ?You may have put 65.34 litres into the tank, but that would have been on top of what was in the tank to start with.? ?Which means you probably had the equivalent of what the filler tube holds when you filled up.? ?

And take what the gauge says with a grain of salt.? They are not precise measures of fluid.? ?I had a 1974 Plymouth Sebring with a gauge that was anything but reliable when it read less than a quarter tank.? ?I ran out of gas when it read about an eighth full, this two months after I drove the car until the needle was on empty - and still had enough to get to the service station.

After that the car was never driven with less than a quarter tank of gas, at least according to the gauge.
