Thanks now all I have to do is get the DVD and look up Issue 180. I like the picture of your Hub Cap and how the color shows. Just what color is that and just kind of paint did you use?

An older post on this board indicates, "The infomation on wheel stripe colors is described as coming from an article in Plymouth Bulletin #180."

Perhaps you can find what you need there.

On my rims they are black with red strip rings. Wonder just what color read they were?

The wheels on my P12 were painted the same color as the body. The lines are an off-white. I have an old wheel that still has the stripes for comparison. I found that 1-Shot Sign Painters' Lettering Enamel, color 116-L Ivory, was a pretty good match to the original color.

Just what is the correct color for the rim as well as the lines?

I think everyone wants to know the answer to that question! Different people I have talked to have tried differernt approaches with varying degrees of success. I had two professional pinstrippers refuse the job because they said the could not match the precision of the factory original stripes. They could do a good "artistic" job which might suit most, but would not be as clean and consistant as the originals.

I saw someone who mounted the wheel to an old spindle and made a jig to hold the striping tool. They claim that worked well, but I never saw the result up close.

I personally mounted the wheel to the car (all I have is a frame at this point) and turned the wheel as I held a Beugler pinstriping tool steady on a hand rest. I was not happy with the results but most people say it looks better than others they have seen.

If anyone ever finds a fool proof method (or builds some kind of tool) I will do mine over again.

I am in the market for tires for my 1941 Plymouth P12. When I do get them I want to sandblast the rims amd prime and paint them. On my orginial rims there three color rings around the rim itself. What I like to know is how do I paint those rings back on the rim?
