Carla:
I have taken my linkage off my 39 P8 business coupe.  I am not using it and it looks a lot like what your photo shows.  Note that one of the little swivel jonts was pretty worn and shot on mine, but the other pieces look fine. I went to a more mordern flexibiel cable that works better coming from the gas pedal through the firewall and over the top of the entine.  Are you interested in these parts?   Gary

The linkage attaches to the head with a special head bolt that is tapped to accept a cap screw that holds the "Throttle Control Bell Crank Bracket".  The head does not have a special tapped hole to hold the bracket.

I have a few extra linkage parts if you know exactly what you are missing.  I was able to purchase an NOS linkage kit some time ago that had most of the the parts... but not the bell crank bracket.

Attached are some pre-restoration photos.  Let me know if you need any post restoration detail photos.

I was able to find some '41 Ply engine photos on the internet, which at least tells me which basic throttle linkage assy we're needing, and a good bit of rooting through the bins of misc parts Bob brought over hasn't turned up more than a couple of small pieces. It looks as tho the whole throttle linkage assy for this '41 has been lost, sad to say.

Does anyone know of anyone who is parting out, or has parted out, a '41, and might have the throttle linkage assembly for sale/trade?

(on the bright side, there were several mid to late '30's/early '40's original carbies, which look eminently rebuildable. I'm going to put them to soak in a vat of carb cleaner. Does anyone have some spare carby rebuild kits they'd care to sell, even if incomplete ones? It looks as tho I'll be able to put several reconned or 'good serviceable' carbies together, trade for ????? if anyone needs one.)

cheers

Hello, all,

Thanks to Tod and Mvair's timely help, we got the clutch linkage in place and set up as should be, but tonight we ran into another problem.

Apparently, after Bob took the engine out of his '41, approx six years ago, the boxes of engine-related parts became scattered whilst in storage.

It looks as tho there is some spares of '37-'38 throttle linkage, and possibly some, but not all, of the correct parts for the '41. Its just been too many years since I'd worked on a '41 for me to remember whether the throttle linkage was the earlier type which was mounted to a bracket secured by the two upper capscrews securing the bell-housing to the engine, or whether the '41 should use the later style linkage.

Could someone please take a photo of the throttle linkage for a '41 for us, which would tell me how the linkage is arranged?

I got the engine all together and ready to start, except for the throttle linkage, and now am wondering whether the head that was with that engine is actually the correct '41 head.

Some of the miscellaneous linkage pieces which were in a box of parts are for the type of throttle linkage which pivots on a little bell-crank mounted to a pin on the engine head. The head which was with the engine doesn't have the 3/8-16 tapped hole for that little pin. Foolish me, I put the head on the engine....fat, dumb, and happy......casually asssuming that it was the correct head just cos it was with the engine.

Does anyone have the casting numbers for the different heads, which might give me a clue?......I've got several other Dodge/Ply six heads here, at least one of which does have the tapped hole for the throttle bell-crank, but not the little additional little water port at the front of the head.

cheers

Carla
