thanks thats a big step in the right direction. at least i know i'm not missing anything.

I spoke with an older gent at a machine shop and he said the small hole to feed the cam, but could not remember off hand what side of the journal was the feed side.

every piece of the puzzle is a step in the right direction.

I can't say for sure about the orientation of the bearings, but yes the early engines didn't have a pressed in bearing insert. I am away from home and my reference materials so I can't look up when (of if) the rear camshaft bearing go a replaceable insert.

getting he motor reassembled on my 1935 PJ, flat head 6

the machine shop did the disassembly. and now i have run in to a couple things I just want to clarify. before as i put it back together.

the bearing kit came with 3 bearings for the camshaft. all the info i can find only lists 3 bearings for the cam. but that would leave the rear of the cam hanging in a close tolerance hole in the back of the block with no bearing. is this normal?

how do i tell what way the bearings go in. new bearings have 3 oil holes, one large and two small. the journals only appear to have 2 oil holes but I don't know which way the large hole on the bearing should point.

thanks.
