Thank you, the rear window had leaked at some time in the past and had rotted out a lot of the wood pieces. I thought that the metal trim may have been lost.? :o

On the tranny and rear end, 4 cylinder owners have found no problems with using a straight 90 weight gear oil. On the rear window, you had said early production, so I'm guessing rectangle rear window v/s oval. If this is the case the inside window frame that holds the glass in is little more than 4 pieces of quarter round with 45% angles cut on each end. those are then screwed into the casement through the upholstery fabric. If needed I can provide a photo. The rubber seal is sold by Steele Products.

I haven't really bothered with flushing. Just drain and refill. And I don't do that very often for the transmission or rear axle.

Tod, do you use anything to flush out the gear boxes before refilling?

I use the heaviest weight gear lubricant my local auto supply carries, SAE140 hypoid, in my 1933. I find the heavier lubricant makes silent up shifting easier. I believe that the 1950s and 60s version of hypoid gear oil would eat any brass found in old rear ends and transmissions but that the modern version is okay. And, in any case, I don't recall seeing any brass components in there when I had them apart.

As for the rear glass, a local glass shop should be able to cut you a piece to fit. I would strongly recommend putting in safety glass.

Could someone tell me what weight gear lube should be used in the transmission and rear end of my 30U. Also wondering what to use to flush these with before refilling. My owners manual said to use colorless kerosene. I would think this could cause more harm then good :(.

Also looking for the inside trim for my back glass (early model 4 door sedan). Does anyone know where I could get one?
