It is a seal impregnated inside a steel flange. I have an extra one new in box. Once in a while you can find one on ebay.  You can email me at

Id consult the 1928 Tech. director in the club. I have a lot of experience with later (1933 - 1951 ) Plymouths but the earlier cars I've seldom serviced.  I would almost guess that the seal is a Chicago Rawhide type seal with a spring loaded lip. If so a new seal can be bought by removing your old seal and measure the diameter of the pinion shaft where the seal surface makes contact, thickness, and the diameter of the hole it drives into. Take those dimensions to any seal and bearing company, NAPA or comparable business and they should be able to come up with a seal.  Once again, ask the '28 expert first.

I have a small leak on the pinion seal. is there a leather seal there or some type of lip seal?
