Thanks. One of the hoses was totally disconnected. They are both brittle. I'll get a couple of new hoses and try finding a rubber extrusion that will fit for  the cowl vent.

If I recall correctly, I found a rubber extrusion the right size to fit in the grove and cut it to length.

There is a slight tray round the edges under the cowl vent opening to catch any water that makes it past the gasket. And there are two hoses that connect to that tray that go to the sides of the car and down behind the kick panels to drain the tray. If those hose are disconnected, damaged or missing you will likely get water into the car regardless of how good your cowl gasket is.

When I first bought my car in 2011, the cowl vent did not leak when I washed the car. Since then I have had it painted, and now, it leaks when I wash the car. I have ordered a cowl vent gasket from 2 different sources but they do not fit right (too big and completely fill the valley) and the vent won't close all the way. Does anyone know exactly how the cowl vent seals? Thanks
