I don't have the key for my 39 and would like to just replace the whole lock. I have the repair manual, but it isn't very helpful. You can see in the photo that the trunk was hit at some point in its long life. Everything is pretty rusty inside, too. Any thoughts?

Can't say for sure, but a lot of locks of that era were setup so that if the key was in it and the lock was turned to the unlocked position you could press a wire or small rod into a hole on the bottom of the cylinder assemble and remove the tumbler.

to my great surprise, neither the service manual nor the parts book shows any picture of the truk lid lock.
I can?t believe.
Car is not here to look at it physically.
