I did the wood grain imitation

Dash colour was heavily burnt out and worn to the bare metal, so I redid it myself with a rose- and- zebra-  -wood imitation colour set.
First I had to spray a yellow grounding of very high viscousity. Dried up, it showed a felt- like rough surface (Foto 3). On this I painted sort of an ink to get the grainig proper. The ink?s solvent evaprated very fast leaving brown/ black lines on the border of each single drop and brushstroke. I did it in several layers until satisfaction. Unfortunately, I was not able to imitate the simplistic pattern of the original Briggs livery. I got in Rolls- Royce like brown wood (Foto 2, lower), much too elegant.
Dissatisfied, I began to overspray it with the red car colour, and having the first thin layer sprayed I realised a very fine match to the original effect (Foto2 upper). After spraying four coats of transparent polyurethane (?) varnish over everything to preven UV- rays fade  the ink colour, I?m now very satified with the result (Foto 1 upper). It?s not that difficult, trial + error (on the ash tray cover) works best!
To keep a historic reference, I let the windshield mouldings untouched. They were in acceptable condition and show the na?ve efforts of Briggs wood imitation finish (Foto 1 lower).
