Dear Jim Benjaminson. 
my comments on the receipt of the bulletin were not a criticism and I don't think that someone receives it before or later for different date of consignment. Unfortunately the magazines have a period of superior delivery to the postal letters. This happens everywhere. If we have spoken commenting the delivery and the time employed for receiving it means only an (this for me) occasion to talk to other members on a common matter and mainly to exalt the value that we give to the issue of our Club. The costs grow, we know that and I am sure that each of us is ready to sustain the Club.  Attends him, to speak of the times that we check for receiving means  only and only  that we appreciate it, we hold it important tool of communication and me personally I believe few Club they have a publication devoted as ours, specialistic as ours, participated as ours, volute as ours and mainly attended as ours. You always hold ours to speak on the delay a compliment for the quality and for the appointment that the staff devotes to the Club.

If everyone will just stop and think for a minute - is the Bulletin really late?  Or that far behind?  The aimed for mailing date is the LAST day of the SECOND month on the front cover.  The Sept-October issue then, would be targeted to be mailed October 31st.  Once in the mail, its anybodys guess how long it will take to arrive in your mailbox.  I live 60 miles from the printers - who also mails the magazine for us.  It is not uncommon for me to hear from members on the east coast, westcoast or where ever, that have received their bulletin before I get mine in the mail.  Its a rule of the post office that ALL issues must be mailed at the same time, so its not that some members are getting preferential treatment in the mail department.  The magazines are bagged using a complicated system the post office has that is supposed to provide quicker, better service (thats the code lettering you see on your mailing labels).  If you happen to notice a colored pencil line on your label, don't panic.  Its not someone singling you out for late delivery - that is the "break" where one group of magazines goes into a certain bag while others go to a different bag.  We do not date our magazines "ahead of time" like many newsstand magazines.  Really, is the latest issue of Motor Trend REALLY the February 2011 issue on sale at Thanksgiving????

Now - as for "somebody" raiding the ads prior to the ad appearing in the Bulletin - it doesn't happen.  Only the editor sees the ads, nobody else.  With a two-month publication window its the parts seller who has the advantage.  He can mail (or emal) his parts for sale tonight and two weeks from now take his stuff to a swap meet and sell it.  Or someone can stop by and say "I need a left-handed crankshaft muffler bearing for my car" and he says "I've got one and I'll sell it to you for thirty bucks".  The seller has sold the item long before the ad has even been setup for publication.  And he doesn't notify the editor to remove the ad......weeks down the line you get the magazine, call the guy and he says "sorry, its already sold".  Whose fault is it that its sold?  The Bulletin or the seller????


Finally the dues increase.  The price of paper has gone up, the postage rates have gone up (and are going up again shortly).  The club has to pay its bills - and to do so, the dues have to go up.....or the Bulletin goes back to black and white, or less pages....or ceases.  Our membership is getting older, "old-timers" are passing away or no longer able to function on  their own.  As the membership base decreases, and prices increase dues have to go up.  Its simple economics.  I you want something for nothing (i.e. read the Bulletin on the internet) remember, one day it might not be there if you don't support it.  Each issue of the Bulletin runs about $10,000 with printing and postage.  Add to those costs, the cost of insurance to protect the club and its members at meets--oh yes, the meets, trophies, etc.  That all costs money, too.

I can consult it very speedy when I'm on my desk,
it is precious when I show it to my friend here in the club or during the meeting in the printed copies.
The both edition are important, but please, let me see.....

I paid my dues last week, I will continue to pay them each year as long as I am able to.  The bulletin is a great magazine and would hate to see its demise

I received issue 304 sometime over the last couple of days, not sure when but it was in the mail box when I got back from Thanksgiving.

Looking through it, I am reminded that it is paid for entirely by membership dues. This is evident by the lack of commercial (paid) advertisements. So your comment "The painfully slow delivery schedule of the PO coupled with the posted PDF copy of the Bulletin... tells me there is no really good reason for me to continue my membership" basically means the demise of free copies of the Bulletin. If it becomes evident that people are not joining or are leaving the club because the one thing they value (the Bulletin) can be had free either the club will stop making it available to non-members or it will go broke trying to make it available to non-members. Either way, it won't be there for you. Not a threat, just an observation: Organizations don't like going out of business and will address, perhaps not adequately or correctly, issues that could put them out of business.

USPO subscriptions for print materials are experiencing rapid decline, thanks in part to the WWW. The Bulletin is no exception. We just got a club renewal notice this week. I?m pretty sure I?m going to let my membership expire as I?ve found all the information/entertainment I need on my ?33 Plymouth through the Internet. I have to agree with Seb, it has been a month since the next issue went to the printer, I haven't recieved my new issue or seen the on line version as of yet.  Seems if the dues are going to rise, which they did, and I have sent in my renewal, the bulletin could be close to on time instead of an issue behind.  It is a great publication, but to be an issue behind all this past year, is kind of disappointing just the same

They will be in pdf form and I do not keep older ones.  I also remove the advertisements from the posted Bulletin's so they are not confusing people who download a Bulletin in the future and try to call someone for an ad that is very much out of date.

you see this a lot with all clubs and groups..I have found in the past that it is just to hard to guarantee delivery to eveyone at a "somewhat reasonable window"  as for a seller..not so bad..I have also seen inside trading where the folks in charge of the publication have long before made off with the part..for a buyer, this activity and delay in mail/receiving the ad just flat out bites....that is why swap meets and electronic media is so great..one is only limited by how actice/inactive they are in their search..well, deep pockets help a lot also..

My copy arrived just yesterday...

Is it just me? Or maybe the blankety blank Postal Service? I still haven?t received my July/August print copy of The Plymouth Bulletin. I had placed an ad in there so long ago I?d pretty much forgotten about it; and I?ve been getting emails and phone calls on the ad for over two weeks, now, from members that say they have their copies; yet I still have not seen mine.

Thankfully the current Bulletin is posted here and I?ve read most of it on line. Here?s a novel idea: offer the membership without the hard copy of the magazine for a reduced rate. Its all ?old news? by the time I get my copy, anyway.
