I found some of the felt washers when I did the brakes on my '41. But I don't remember where I got them. If you make your own, you may need to get felt from an industrial felt supplier. It is rare to find thick felt in craft stores. I needed some and called a company that had a website. I asked for such a small amount the sales rep said it was not worth the time and expense to write it up. He sent me a "sample" the thickness I needed and didn't charge me. The attached photo shows the front brakes on my '41 after restoration.

Thanks guys!
I suspected it was felt or possibly leather.  After rear end grease contaminated the area, this was reduced to a dirt like consistancy.  I was eying those felt rings they sell to keep corrorosion off battery terminals.  They're a bit pricy at 3 bucks a set, but maybe I'm just cheap.  May have to take a trip to the craft store and look for some thick felt.

I think I just answered this over at the P15-D24 forum. :)

The washer is made from felt. You can get felt in various thicknesses from industrial supply shops and make your own replacements.

Hi folks. I'm repairing my brakes and found that on the bolt that holds the shoe onthere is a soft washer.  It has a metal cover over it and contacts the brake shoe. Mine is disintegrating and can't tell what its supposed to be made of. Any ideas on replacement?
