The jacks I have seen for 46-48 Plymouths have been black base and ratchet with a grey natural metal shaft.

Black lug wrench.

Pat ,   ithink you have got it right , chrysler were like most of the other,s they didn,t make every part for there cars, they out sourced a lot of the parts needed to complete there cars, like most car plants today , usualy the lowest bidder won  . Rex

I'm wondering if the jack color wasn't maybe determined by which factory the car was built in (West Coast, Detroit, etc). Possibly Chrysler used different suppliers for jacks and other items depending on where the factory was located.

One of the two original 41 jacks I own is semi-gloss black on the base and unit itself. The other is the same jack but colored an original rusty copper color. Kind of like the color of an old penny. I know the black one was purchased with the car, and was never re-painted (the car was black too). That car has been in my family since new.

Hmmm...sounds like perhaps Ma Mopar didn't have a set color scheme for all the 41 jacks. Before I bead blasted it, sounds like my jack resembled your original jack there Lindsay. All my pieces were black...vertical post and ratcheting assy...the base...the hook and the tire iron. Pretty boring huh? I think I'm going to get creative with it...I know I'm going to leave the vertical post silver either by clearing it or by painting it silver. The other pieces may go back to black or some other color to compliment the car color. Thanks all for your replies. I appreciate it..

No one knows?  ??? I know Ma Mopar started painting the bases and the hooks blue in 1970 and they were gray before that...don't know how far back they were gray though...

It is my recollection, probably faulty, that the bumper jack on the 1963 Plymouth we had when I learned to drive had a black base and black ratchet mechanism but silver colored post.

I've bead blasted my 41 Plymouth's bumper jack...all four pieces were black which I'm pretty sure is incorrect. The ratcheting jack assy, the stand, the hook and tire iron. Can somebody here tell me what color(s) the factory painted them? Thanks, Bob
