I don't have copies of very many 1931 build cards but I think the paint code is actually a combination of the paint code and the upholstery code - at least, thats the way they did it in other years.  Six wire wheels and 2 fender wells are correct.   I do have paint info on the 31's so if you want to contact me at I can get your mailing address and make copies of the info to send to you.  Jim Benjaminson

Jim B. probably has the paint codes in his treasure trove of info.  I do know that in that day one could order as a special item, the paint used on any of other the Chrysler vehicles.  The 6 wire 2FW might mean 6 wire wheels with 2 fender wells, and the cloth may refer to the interior, instead of leather.

I recently received the build card for my PA sedan from Chrysler. It was a special order car, and has a special order number of 1396. The paint code is hand-written on the card and is 1396-40. The car has original paint, and is tan and brown, which I believe are not standard colors for a PA sedan. Also, the entire chassis and running gear are also painted brown to match the fenders and trim. This car has been in my family since 1957 and has 39,000 original miles on it.

Does anyone know what these codes mean? Chrysler doesn't.

Also, under model it says, "Sedan 6 Wire 2 F.W. Cloth." Does cloth refer to the upholstery or maybe the tire covers?

This car has been idle in my barn since 1996. I am in the process of getting back on the road for some touring next summer. I hope to show it at the AACA 75th Anniversary meet in Louisville in June. I just joined the Plymouth Club, and hope to attend a 4-cylinder meet in the future.
