Huh! I see the post did go through even though my computer said it didn't. Sorry for the missing words and the poor syntax in the previous message. I tried to beat the gun.

I just tried to post a 'thank you' to Tod for the NAPA pump information, and add some more information. However, the "page expired" before I could post - all of 2 minutes.

I THIS THIS SITE NEEDS WORK!

Thanks Tod for the NAPA information. My local branch can get either the new or rebuilt within a week. Strange though, the prices are virtually identical. That makes me wonder about the quality of the new unit. When I was in the reman business we built 'original quality' units that retailed for about 60% of new price. Other reman operations performed to similar standards at similar prices. I suppose my best option is to order both and make a hands on choice.

In response to other comments, as far as I remember, all 6 cyl engines that use the external bypass pump can accept the same unit. The only difference I am aware of is bushing versus bearing, and why would anyone opt for a bushing unit? Even when I worked in the reman business we refused to rebuild bushing units.

I have one on my '36 that I was told was a later one because it doesn't have a grease fitting.  It may be after-market with a sealed bearing, though, I am not sure. The '36 pumps are shown in the original literature with a grease fitting. There are usually some on Ebay.

1936-42 use Chrysler part 947544 while 1946-48 use 1064750. Not sure what the difference is between the two but I think you can use either.

For the later Chrysler number, NAPA Online shows two numbers, a rebuilt unit (WP 58459) and a new manufacture unit (TFW 42554). So if that later pump would fit and work for you then you can buy the pump at NAPA.

I need a water pump for my 36, but only a bearing type as used in later models. I believe any external bypass pump will fit.

If no one has a rebuilt, NOS or NORS unit I will appreciate a recommendation for a suitable vendor.

Thanks very much.
