I agree, that information is interesting.  I had not seen anything on what was done to preserve the car, so the question now is, did it work?   What I found amusing was that  thay weren't sure if gas would be available in 2007 and put some containers of gas and oil in the vault. I wonder if the gas will be usable?

A guy sent me a link to a Shelbyville OK newspaper article - I have re-posted it here - interesting about how they packed the car.

Interesting. It might not just be a pile of rust. . .

Do we have any POC member here that's in the Funeral Home business?  What happens to "anything" buried for 50 years?
Decoposition can happen to Inorganic as well as Organic matter. For this to have worked the car would need to be in a perfect climate controlled "vaccum".

I had a 57 when I was very young.  It was a really neet car with lots of room and very stylish.

But ,,,  be realistic..  Bury a car underground for 50 years ..  what do think about a rotted,
smelly, moldy interior  .  Rust, blistered paint,  and well You can picture it for yourself..

I have watched the video of them burieing it, as Jim said it was state ot the art back then, with the technoligy that was available then they did everv thing right, BUT my thought, and i hope i am wrong is that if they didn't remove the air as they sealed it ,it will come out as a pile of rust. as i said i hope i am proven wrong

There has been lots of speculation and the Forward Look website ran a "poll" for awhile about what condition the car will be in.  The answer at this time is, that nobody knows!  And they won't know until its taken out of the ground and put on display.  The Tulsa people have been doing a lot of work in contacting people that were involved in the original burial.  It was "state of the art" at the time but that was 50 years ago!  And a lot of things can happen over 50 years.  If the vault cracked and it filled with water - YUCK!  What a mess it will be.  The microfilm in the trunk could have deterioated to the point where it is no longer useable which would render the question of "who gets it" mute....all I can envision is there will be lots of legal wrangling if there are multiple answers that are correct...or there are a lot of family members if the person is deceased.  Say the average person who rendered a guess was 25 years old in 1957, that makes them 75 now.  35 at the time?  Do the math....and if the car is a piece of junk, will they accept it if they are the winner?  So many questions - NO answers, at least until June 15th.  See you there!

I too am hoping for the best, it is a dry climate around there compared to other areas of our country.  If there is good drainage and since most of the top land area is covered with blacktop/buildings/concrete it may be that very little water has gotten into the vault.  I would guess they know who the car belongs to but I would guess they will not announce that till the car is out of the ground.

I think the body will be solid due to the coating they put on it.  There is some speculation that the vault my have been disturbed/cracked when the street was widened, if that is the case the vault could have filled with water.  Its anybody's guess at this point, but I think it will be in pretty sad shape.

I'm curious.  With all the talk of the uncovering of the 57 in Tulsa, does anyone really know what will be found.  I'm hoping for the best as I am a fan of the 57-58 models.  I still have my 57 Belvedere 4-door though it's not road worth now, and I once had a 58 Custom Suburban.   But I'm wondering what measures were taken in 1957 to preserve the car for 50 years.  I do have a habit of taking the "what if," side of things and that is why I pose the question.   Will it be in show room condition, or will we be dissapointed with what we find?  Again, I hope we find a perfectly preserved car.  But, are we prepared for something less?   What do you think?
