I agree with Chet. I have gone to concourse car shows, spent $12- $20 to get in and was board and ready to leave within 45 minutes. On the other hand, I can go to a local salvage yard full of classics, or the estate of a car hoarder and content for most of the afternoon. I like to reflect on the cars history, condition, and how it may have ended up where it currently is. It's like reading a book; you can't wait to see what?s next. I always enjoy hearing the story that goes with an old car. Was it brought back from a foreign land, or pulled from granddad?s barn, or just purchased as transportation years ago for a hundred bucks, used. That's the type of stuff that peaks my interest.

The concept of restoring back to Factory Perfection is definitely a standard to judge by.? I think if you look across all vintage car owners the larger percentage of people enjoy their old drivers with all the additions and subtractions which have transpired over the years and which makes their cars unique.?

A car that has survived decades of use and various owners carries with it the scares of real life.? It is my humble opinion that a car show full of factory perfect vehicles is boring.? The cars are stripped of their individual character and history.? I was at a Modal A meet in Mannassas last year and saw a number of beautifully restored Fords from the late 20?s.? They all looked great and also they all looked the same.? The most interesting car at the meet was a 29 Model A which had torn seats and original straw coming out the bottom of a the seat cushions.? ?Basically., a 100% survivor.? What was left of the original paint carried all the scars and patina created by decades of service to it?s many drivers.? ? Great mechanical shape..,? a car that is driven often and respected for it?s years of service.? As far as I am concerned it was the best of show.

It is my opinion that as long as a car is on the road anything goes.? Once it is retired to the museum then it may be taken back to factory perfection.., after all it will just be sitting their waiting patiently for maybe another driver?.

Many of you I hear making remarks about those "darn street rodders", tearing up perfectly good cars and such. Although not a street rodder myself, I can respect the amount of knowledge and work that a guy puts into his "ideal" car. My step father is a big fan of the hot rods, and has been since he was a teenager. He helps me chase after parts and move all the heavy stuff in the garage year round, so when summer rolls around and the Good Guy Nationals are held out in DeMoines, I always agree to attend with him. I am often susprised at how many Plymouths are amoung the 4 thousand registered cars at the meet. Furthermore, how many original Plymouths are in attendance. Even the hot rodded Plymouths are typically not all chopped up or over modified. It seems that Plymouth had such nice lines from the begining, that even todays street rodder can not see how cutting on the body is going to make it look any better. I wanted to share some photos of some good looking Plymouths that were in attendance in the summer of 06. Next time the "Good Guys" are in your area, it might be worth the price of admission to take a look around. Not all Good Guys are Bad Guys.
