VENT WINDOWS

On the 49-52, the bottom pivot of the vent window is splined and there is a coil spring and  two washers which have a stop on them which limit the # of degrees the window can open. I am sure the 53-4 is the same. Usually the window opens much farther than you describe.  If you remove the garnish moulding you can see this setup.  It is likely it just needs lubrication but it is possible someone has been there before you and assembled it wrong.  It is a serious problem if the splined shaft gets twisted off so it won't hurt to have a look.  dp

Hi Cliff....i wasn't to sure how far your vent windows should open, so i went out and checked the ones in my 54. yours should open a lot further than they are. The ones on mine open right round till the vent window hits on the door frame.probably close to what your chev ones do ..... Rex

Question?
The front Vent Windows of My 59 Chevy Apache swing open WIDE (about 300 degrees) to allow lots of fresh air in. My 54 Savoy Vent Windows only open about 8 inches which just about PREVENTS air from coming in.  Am I missing some kind of fluid dynamic issue? Or is this just Normal?
