Yes, I looked at several different routes including the ones you mention.? If anyone wants to join us, we will choose the route determined by the capabilities of the cars and wishes of the owners.? Until someone accepts my invitation, the point is moot.

I do however appreciate your comments very much.? The route thru Ely, Tonopah and Bishop does have some appeal.

If you are going to drive from SLC to SM CA you should reconsider your route of travel. If you look at a map of the Western US you will note that Reno is west of Los Angeles, if you travel in that direction you will travel at the very least 125 miles out of your way. If you yahoo mapes and plug in SLC/SM they  will route you via I-15, 138, 14, 126, 101 to Santa Maria a distance of 842 vs 969 on I-80/I-5, 46, 101. The route on yahoo will not show you the shortest route which is I-15 to Barstow, west on 58 to Bakersfield, 99 s. to 166, 166  w. to SM. The route will avoid a lot of city traffic, be more scenic on excellent two lane roads.

Another good route is I-80 W to Wendover, 93 A south to Ely, Tonopah, 95/6 W  to Bishop, 395 -14 S to Mohave, 58 W to Bakersfield then 99 N to 46, W on 46 to 101 then south to SM.  this route will cut off the 53 miles between Barstow/Mojave.

I travel between Eastern Idaho, SLC , Nevada, So. Cal and Mid State California about four times a year driving a 40 ft motor home or a SUV pulling a 25 ft car trailer so I know every short cut there is. I  prefer the route through Ely on 93 because it is a good road that avoids the Southern Utah/Las Vegas traffic, the lodging is reasonible and good in Ely (Motel 6) Bishop, etc.,  plus it is a more enjoyable easy drive....Bill

I sure wish I could make this trip with your group... but alas, I'll have to sit this one out.  Planning on Tulsa instead, it works better for family timing.  Maybe you and Rick should tag along with me to Tulsa after the confidence building trip to CA?  ;)

I understand your feeling like your the only plymouth owner within a couple of states distance...

Hello folks,

I'd like to float an idea regarding travel to the Spring Meet.?

My son and I hope to take our two cars to Santa Maria.? As I live just outside Salt Lake City, we will be taking I-80 across Nevada, over Donner Summit and then to Santa Maria via Sacramento.? We hope several others in our area will drive with us.? We plan to have a support truck/trailer accompany us just in case.....?

Are any others planning to come this way on their way to the meet?? If so, would you be interested in joining our little caravan for the last 1,000 miles?? We don't want to make a big thing out of this - organization is not my gig.? I have mapped it out and it can be done in 3 eight hour days at 55 mph.

It will not be an official POC function, just some folks traveling together.? However, if any of the regions have travel plans that we could join or support, we'd like to do that.? It just gets so darn lonely being a Plymouth owner here in Utah and it is a long drive.

Please get back to me if you are interested.? Nothing is firm yet - this is just a trial balloon so we can make our plans.
