Tulsa update

Morning Chet - I'm hoping that I'm just missing it and that some organizational efforts are underway locally by POC that we are just missing. I've missed stuff before. My wife accuses me of being blind quite often ;D But, it just doesn't seem to be jumping out at us in any way that allows us to plan and organize ourselves. So, are we just too anxious or do we need to pull something together on our own? I do agree that POC must have a presence there and be visible.....at least that's my opinion. I like Pete's idea best so far about getting into the open event and just trying to group up. It would be nice if the space to do that was set aside. My local POC club either isn't going or isn't communicating very well about what they are up to. I will make a call today and find out what the Rocky Mountain Chapter has planned.

I find it hard to believe that an organization dedicated to the Brand Plymouth would not have some official presence at this once in a lifetime event.? Maybe the only one of its kind ever.

In the very least any POC member attending the Open Show with either a car or a camera should wear a cap or a shirt or something identifying himself as a POC member.? ?I know at least 20 people from across the country who will be driving their cars to Tulsa whether they are in the open show or not.? Many are driving over a thousand miles in one direction.? I believe this event will be a Mopar Woodstock.

The real good news is that I am told the Belvedere ran when parked or is that what they all say.? Maybe I'll see you there.., If not, I'll catch you on old Rt 66.

Anything yet about a POC show or separate location or corner where all of the POC cars will gather in Tulsa? Or are we all on our own in the open show?

I have a room in one of the Comfort Inn's - I plan on being there. I have also contacted my friend who is the curator of the St. Louis Turbine Car - it is running - and if he can, he hopes to make the Tulsa event with the car. Now that would be another added benefit for any Plymouth/Chrysler nut. I will post here when I hear for sure. He is checking his schedule for the car this year.

Remember guys, this is the Tulsa Centennial Committee doing this - not the Plymouth Owners Club. I don't have any info at this time what the new Tulsa Region is planning for activities, shows so don't cancel your plans just yet!

Well I was planning on going to Tulsa. But if each club can only send three cars, I may just stay home. Sounds pretty uppity to me. Look for a show where we are more welcome.

The Microsoft Word version of this news release shows that there is a $40 registration fee for this car show. I think this is a great plenty for spectator judging and they will only provide 4 trophies. It seems to me that they are figuring out that there is a great deal of interest in the Tulsa event and now they are getting greedy.

Received this information from Tulsa this evening. Supposedly the car will be unearthed and on display at the Tulsa Convention Center ON June 15th. There will be a 3 day INVITATIONAL car show. That will run from June 15th thru the 17th. A "call for antique and classic car entries is now being issued for this once-in-a-lifetime car show" to quote the press release.

The show will be divided into two categories - pre 1957 and post 1957 up to 1988 model year. Any vehicle brands are "invited to apply". Car clubs are allowed to submit up to three vehicles of their choice for the show.

Three "Best of Show" awards will be given - "Best Pre-57 Car", "Best 1957 Car" and "Best Post-57 Car". Selections to be made by a spectator vote and will be entered in the "Best of Show" award to be determined by the Show Committee.

The car show will be open from 3-7 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. SPECTATORS WILL BE CHARGED ADMISSION.

DEADLING to APPLY is March 15, 2007. The show committee will review all applications by March 31, 2007 and announce those that have been accepted by April 5, 2007. Applications can be downloaded at www.buriedcar.com or a copy can be requested by calling 918-712-8922

NOTE: This is information as provided by the show committee and does NOT reflect any input by the Plymouth Owners Club or its Tulsa Regional group....at this time, I haven't heard what plans the Tulsa group may have.

I went to the website listed above earlier this evening and the application for the car show has NOT been put up yet.....
