Let me add a couple of interesting facts, the motor home block is the HD one with extra reinforcing ribs, and does have a milder torque cam (easily changed), the manifolds exit in the center and cannot usually be used, but headers and regular manifolds (anything in the 350-440 family ) will work.  The water pumps are the same, but there are two possible housings - l exits on the passenger side, the other on the drivers side (standard passenger car housings).

The transmission is different, it that the tail shaft is a different length than a passenger car but all parts are interchangable.  The good thing about the transmission is that it has HD clutches with extra discs in the clutch pack making it a very strong unit.  You can change the tailshaft and housing for use in a regular passenger car, or have a new driveshaft made and use it as is.

Hope this sheds some light.

I just recently learned that the 413/440 truck/motor home engines are different in several ways from the car engines.  I was told that the heads are different as is the cam, water pump and exhust manifolds.  A friend of mine purchased a low mileage motor home engine to put in his 55 Dodge Lancer. Since the unit had been in a fire he felt  it would be best to have the engine freashened  up, that is how he found out the engine and trans was not the same as a car....   Makes sense, commercial engines are usually designed to get their power at lower RPM's, where-as car engines are designed to run at high RPM's....Bill
