41 tranny question

In 1941 Plymouth offered an optional "Power Shift" transmission. It was a vacuum assited shift device and included the cansister you see on your car. There should have been vacuum lines running from the carb. to the canister. Your gear shift knob should also be different, a kind of three winged chrome piece. The transmission will work fine without the assist mechanism working. I have read that the system could be troublesome and very often was disconnected. I think Plymouth only offered it in 1941 but I could be wrong about that.

behind the transmission there is a canister with a vacume line and it looks like a type a push rod what is this? the car shifts fine but when i was under it greasing it i saw the rubber boot was dryrotted and it defintly cant be working
