Hi Noni should you be able to obtain a Build Card as Tod suggests you can then cross reference with paintref.com ; the minimum quantity they will produce is 1 quart. Unfortunately they can't provide a sample, the current price for 1 qt is $130 plus shipping. Here is their email address which will definitely save you time <>  Regarding the Build Card/Export I have a 33PD rhd Detroit build for a South African order, I am lucky to a copy of the original Build Card.

Unfortunately the body number does not help.

For North American assembled cars you could contact the Chrysler Historical Collection for a copy of the "build card" using the serial number. The serial number should be on the front right door hinge post. But I there are some issues:

  • They don't usually have information for exported vehicles.
  • They don't seem to have complete records.
  • With all the corporate buyouts and mergers, it is not clear to me that they handle requests from individual owners any more.
All this to say that you may have to resort to carefully removing the paint, layer by layer, until you get to the factory color to see what it originally was.

For 1937 and later the engine compartment firewall paint should have been the body color. (For 1935 and earlier the firewall was black regardless of body color, not sure about 1936.)

Hi!

I am restoring in Brazil a 1937 Plymouth Sedan 4 door, which I got from my father years ago. The vehicle is painted red, but I found out that red was not a option in the original color chart.

How could I figure out the original factory color? The body number is 905-X-10039 BRIGGSMFG.CO.DETROIT.MICH.

Thanks.
