Did you retorque after a couple of heat cycles???  If not warm it up and retorque using the same sequence.

Update: It took some time to post the results but wanted to thank everyone for the help! She seems to running great once again. After I paid $$$ for the copper head gasket I found a guy on ebay with three NOS left over after his shop closed back in the 70's. Got all three for $15...... Now have spares for the future! Hope I never need them:-)

some old school folks would suggest coating the block side of the gasket with All Purpose Grease to allow it some wigglability as you are troquing it.  You mentioned you milled the head, how much, just to true it or enough to bump up the Compression ratio?  If you milled quite a bit, you will probably want to crank in some additional timing advance fro factory spec.  I took a total of .050 of my Plymouth 6's head and block, and found that a 5 degree extra initial advance really pepped it up taking advantage of the increase in Compression.

Thank you for the information! I just picked up the head from the machine shop (milled and blasted) and will be installing it this weekend after the paint dries! My only hope is that the block is  flat but I won't know till I get it clean and can put a straight edge on it.

based on the size of the fasteners and the compression ratio I would think 60 to 65 would be in the neighborhood.  As far as sequence is concerned  Start in the center row between 2 and 3 spark plug and work out from the center.

start by doing 40 lbs, then 50 then 60.  Put a couple heat cycles in it then retorque in the same sequence to 60 or 65.  It may not be the exact sequence but as long as you squeeze if from the center to the edges you should be good to go.

I'm looking for the proper bolt sequence to tighten the bolts on my 1931 Plymouth PA 4 cylinder, 196CI cylinder head? I understand no torque spec's are available for this engine?

Any advise would be helpful! Thank you.
