1941 600-16 Rims. How large of a tire fits 1941 Plymouth Stock Rims.

Anyone out there know if a  215/85R16 radial tire fits on a 600-16 original 1941 wheel?

And if they did, would they be too large for the inside fender area of a 1941 Plymouth?

Looking through my Coker Tire catalog I did not find any 215/85R16 tires, I did find 215/65R16 tires.. The majority of rim widths called out in Cokers for tires in the 65 series range is 5.5/7.5... I would think that a rim width of 4" would be to narrow for just about any radial tire. If the tire store said they would not install tires on 4" rims, that would have killed the deal for me.
The majority of radial tires list the required rim width right on the sidewall... I still hear my dad telling me to not let the directions on the can outsmart me....Bill

What is the width of a 41 rim?  If it's 4 inches between the beads you're pushing the limits, if its 4 1/2 you are pretty much at maximum.  I am running 225 75 15's on 5 inch wide rims.  Two places I took the tires said according to their charts they were too wide for the wheels.  I got them mounted at the local gas station and they have been fine.  However these are newer design after market wheels and not 70 year old ones.

the 85 aspect ratio is pretty close to the stock design ( I believe the old bias plys would have been considered a 90 or 95 if they exhisted today) but if they are radials, they do generate more force through the bead area than bias plys due to the side wall flex that radials exhibit.  If your rims are in excellent condition, and your loading and speeds are going to be low to moderate you are probably going to be OK if your rims are 4 1/2. wide.  I would personally not try to mount them on anything narrower.
