1941 Plymouth Paint Code location?

The paint and upholstery codes are going to be numbers so probably won't do you much good. The paint code is probably more helpful as it can be referenced to the color chips....

I contacted the Chrysler Historical Museum Archives via email I obtained from their website and this was their response in acquiring Build Records for my Plymouth, or any Plymouth/Dodge/Desoto/Chrysler/Hudson/Nash/Rambler/Willys-Overland car 1930-1967...

My search was on "Plymouth VIN number lookup" and thus the poor results. Thanks for all the updates!! Great information contained in all!!

I just went to your site (http://www.ply33.com/Misc/vin) and discovered that, based on my previous search results, I had been there already. The probelm I guess was on my end, not realizing what your site represented, through ignorance and not giving sufficient time to understanding what it represented, and the subsequent value.

Well there is a serial lookup on the P15 D 25 board but it's for 46 through early 49, and yes you can tell the assembly plant and a date range by the serial number. There were three assembly locations Detroit, Evansville, in, and LA, Ca.

I believe you can start the build card facsimile process by contacting the Walter P Chyrsler Museum in Detroit. Start by looking up the website there may be a link from thir home page.

there are several folks with 40 and 41 Plymouths who are members of the P15 D24 forum, you might want to peruse that site for info also.

The color chip chart on autocolor library shows 5 grays for 41 cars and one for commercial vehicles.

Airwing, Gunmetal, Gunmetal Poly (metalic) Flight gray Poly and flight gray medium poly

enlarge the thumbnails to get the color codes. I believe the medium poly refers to larger metallic pieces that the regular poly.

Chrysler did not encode build information into the numbers back then: They were just sequential numbers for different build runs. You can tell from published documents what model a car is and what factory it came from by just looking up the serial number. But that is about it.

Body numbers are separate sequence numbers depending on the body plant and I've never seen references tying those to specific paint or trim. Engine numbers are also sequential with a engineering model code prefix.

If you are looking for information about the paint and upholstery the car had when it left the factory, the only way I know to do that is to send your car's serial number (located on the front passenger door hinge post) to the Chrysler Historical collection along with some money to get the "build card". That card will have the original body number, original engine number, paint & trim codes, options, etc. on it.

Hi, I'm looking to find out where on the 1941 Plymouth the paint and trim/interior codes are located. And/or how to decipher if it's embedded in some number.
Trying to figure the original color of my Plymouth. Looks to have been some type of gray, but would like to know the color exactly.
Although perhaps close, the car is not currently the original color.
