Well, searching has indicated that the part (Mopar part no. 652 840, fits 1936-47) is about as hard to find as dentures for chickens. It has been recommended that felt or an o-ring can be used to correct the problem. I guess that's what I'll do.

I found, in a Plymouth Parts Book, that there is a "speedometer oil seal" (Mopar part no. 652 840) that will fit my P2. It is a ring with a flat top and bottom, but open on the under side  for containing some kind of sealing material.

Maybe I can find one and "re-stuff" it or otherwise improvise.

Thanks for your reply, John. That's a good question. When the engine and tranny were out recently, we could not determine what the designed connection set-up should have been, and have been trying to determine it. Special fixture? Etc?

I am on the road at present and do not have access to my books.  But---should there be a gasket, either cardboard or cork, inside the cup that screws onto the transmission?
