The 1956 Plymouth Convert. were only available in the Belvedere line and equipped with the 277 cu in V8.? All V8's in 56 were silver with black accessory trim.? By accessory trim I mean the Fan, generator, oil filter housing, engine mounts, starter, etc.? The air cleaner is a different story.? There were two series of 56 Plymouth's, an early and a late series.? Exactly what significate change trigged the two series is unclear.? But the difference between the early and late series is fairly easy to identify.? The early 56's can be indentifed by the PLYMOUTH name being found on the dash board above the radio, on the late series it was in the speaker grill.? Also on the 277 cu in engine, I'm not sure about the 270 cu in, the air cleaner on the early series is yellow with red lettering, while the late series is red with white lettering.? The time frame for the series change is unclear, at least to me!? I know there was a design problem with the carburator on the early 277 cu in engine, I know my 56 is an early series.? The carburator was later modified to correct the problem.? ?I have changed the carburator on my 56 to a later version.? The firewall is the body color while the fender wells were gloss blac. Hope this helps
