Ply 29U exhaust manifold

ive never had to have a manifold repaired , although i have had a few cracked , but so far?  i have had a adequate supply of short block and long block manifolds 30,s 40,s and 50,s. the supply is getting low , and i  have heard of repairs not llasting to long . i have a friend who has a 1930 Chrysler 77 which has had a problem with cracked manifolds , he has had them repaired for years , but has just  had a new one cast , i have not heard how succeful it has been , and we live in New Zealnd , i,m not even sure where it was cast , but if any body is interested i will see what i can come up with

As already mentioned by Plymouths... Acet/Oxy Brazing, using brass rod and the correct flux, will fix a broken cast iron manifold very nicely. Several years ago I had a broken exhaust manifold on a '73 Chevy 454 V8.... The engine was an early, short lived application so GM did not service the part... I took the manifold off of the engine, bolted it to an old head and brazed it up... Five years later the manifold was still holding together.
In the "good ole days" when people were short on bucks it was very common to see blocks, water pumps, heads and manifolds brazed together to keep the truck, tractor and/or car going for a few more years. The problem now is that very few people know how to gas weld because of the electric wire feed welders.
Electric welders were not of much use in rural areas that had no electricity.
I liked a term Jim B. used several years ago here on the PB.... "The most dangerous thing in the world is a farmer with a welder".... Bill

Yes the manifold cracked near the end where it is connected with the pipe just in the place for the bolt.
The mechanic says already that it could be settled but it is better to find another.
I will talk with him again but I still looking for another one.

Cracked cast iron can be successfully acet./oxy gas brazed. Brazing is the soldering of brass fluxed rod on to the crack. It cannot be welded. The cast iron won't melt it will just burn. I did it to a Plymouth manifold some years ago and it held though I found in the end I had to build up quite a mound of brass along the stitch. It was on the exhaust part of the manifold which I believe is the most common side to crack with age.

The exhaust manifold is for the Ply year 1929 mod. U (I think it is the same for many models) it is cracked, just in testing the car.

I know the website is for those year cars, but they have lots of other members with other Chrysler vehicles, both older and newer.

It is my understanding that Moose is very good with exhaust manifolds and it might behove you to contact him just the same
