This is very good info. Thanks and am looking forward to what you find on the brackets, I never imagined something simple like the car bracket.
P.S. I recieved a Plymouth Commercial Vehicle Photo Archive for Christmas and found it excellent reading, a lot of reaserch went into that book. Richie MA

There is a trick to the bumper brackets for a rear bumper but I can't remember off the top of my head what it is -- I think its the 41 car front bracket installed upside down but I need to check my source on that. As for the 9" vs. 10" hubcaps. I also believe the 9" cap was used on the cheaper passenger car line while the 10" was on the deluxe model. A little trick I pulled on my '40 - one side had 9" caps and the other side had 10" caps! Nobody ever noticed......you gotta wonder why they went to the expense to tool two difference hubcaps!

I have a rear bumper on mine. I would send a photo but i don't know how to insert it here. I understand from Jim B's book that they didn't come with a bumper. Mine was on the vehicle when I bought it back in the mid 80s, and it is stout steel- must weigh 50 lbs. I used it again after I restored the truck since it has a protection purpose as well as helps keep some weight in the back, and has a welded on hitch incase I want to pull a small trailer. It bolts to the frame rails, and is really quite well done, even if it does give the back end a slight hot rod look. Again- the 10' rule. If the next caretaker doesn't like it , it will come right off and not leave a trace. If u don't mind putting up your email I can send u a couple of photos.

I like that 10' rule but at the rate my resto is going, I will have a few years to find 9" ones. May I ask if you have a rear bumper on your PT? I am a little confused as the option was available but in my 1940 Commercial Car parts list manual (preliminary issued Nov 1939) shows that the brackets, L & R are for 120" wheel base only. So what were used as brackets for our 116"? Thanks Richie MA

10" for the auto, 9" for the truck. On stuff that hard to find, i use the 10' rule - if it looks good from 10 ' it will do just fine.

Thanks John, and it is the only one I have. Came on a PT-105 I bought a few months ago, another one on this truck had circles arount the red area imprinted in the brass (did not know it was brass on steel). Just for my geewhiz file; what were the 10 inch caps from origionally?
From what you are saying, finding a nice set of 9" caps is going to take some time and patience.

that is the right one. I am surprised u were able to find a 9" one. I have 5 10 inchers. don't try to pound the dents out from the back side. The cap is 2 piece with a plated brass shell over a steel hemisphere. Getting it back together is the card trick.
