P15 (47) Outside Door Handles sagging drooping

sorry if i did not make myself clear , i never meant to suggest that you place the handlle, be it white metal or not in the vice ,also its only a solution if you cant source the springs, being in New Zealand can some sime,s  make it a lot harder to source parts , eventualy they are going to run out , and we will have to come up with ideas to fix our cars .

Anybody out there contemplating using elmo54s method be careful not to put twisting motion on early white metal handles. Clamp the end part of the handle that is going to be in contact with the door latch mechanism in your bench vise. Then use a wrench or Vise Grips to twist the handle shaft just at the base of the handle. This puts all the twisting pressure on the shaft and you won't break the handle. This is the fastest and surest method for fixing sagging handles and is a permanent fix. At least as long as 20 years in my case.

if you cant find the springs there is a solution (of sorts)  remove the handle , it has about a 2" shank put it in a vice and give it a twist , it works ive done it , but dont ask me which way to twist it , thats something you will have to work out (it,s a long time since iv,e done it)

there is a little S shaped spring that goes in the interior door latch mechanism inside the door.  It gets weak and the handle sags.

Three of the four outside door handles on my P15 do not return to their original position after the door is opened.

I bought a used inside mechanism replacement on ebay and it appears that it will do the same thing once installed even though I specifically asked about this prior to purchasing.

I can't tell, by looking at it, how/if this can be repaired.

Any help would be appreciated.  Pictures would also be great.

I tried searching the forum for previous posts and came up empty.
