See my other post, I have no control over the server - we host with Go Daddy on a shared virtual Apache server - the MySql is running on a shared server farm off-site from Go Daddy.  Every time I contact them with a problem they report that it is functioning at normal performance level and cannot duplicate the "slowness" at their end.

I don't think the club should spend more than we do now for our Hosting as we do not charge for this service and it is open to non-members as well as members.

I wish I knew more about the way SMF software used with MySql worked, I am trying to learn and I do notice that Linux seems to be faster that Windows most of the time from the browser end.  I would like to clean the old posts and archive them as html but don't dare, we lost the entire discussion a few years ago and that is my prime concern to keep it safe.

I do think the fact that I am sill running the Beta version of the SMF software is part of the problem - but again - I don't dare move to the new software as I may loose everything.

I don't claim to be an expert, I just plug along and keep my fingers crossed that I don't screw something up real bad.

Look at the stats, we have 2251 topics with 11414 posts and 445 members - and one guy who "moderates" - that would be me, Jim is listed so if something happens to me, he could log in and make changes or someone else using his ID could but really it is not something Jim is going to do so don't expect him to help with the WEB work.

Sorry for the long post but I really wish I could make it go faster sometimes too.

Yes, I have broadband too. And all other sites load reasonably fast. The issue is specific the server running this discussion forum.

I do feel bad about complaining and my usual attitude is don't complain unless you are willing to step in and help fix an issue. And while I have the skill set to help on this I just don't have the time.

I normally click on my saved link, then go on to check another dozen or so web sites and come back to see if this site has loaded.

If so then I read it.

As if often the case the page hasn't loaded or has given some sort of "unable to connect to database error", then I close the window. I might try again the same day. But might not.

And posting a reply requires me to really think about how much I want to do it because I have to wait for a couple of page loads.

Time for a new hosting service or new forum software or ????

Mark,

I agree with both Greg and Bill, but the past two days I also have been having problems getting on, one time it will work just fine, the next time I will have all sorts of problems.  I do not have dial up internet service,

Thanks,
Bob

I, like several other people were having trouble with the slowness of the forum a couple of months ago, however lately I have not been having any problems.

The Early Ford V8 forum recently went to a new format and server.... In some respects it is very nice, but then to minimize crank postings, e.g. porn etc., the old forum and? all of the postings are GONE, another problem is that every time you try to access the new forum you have to sign in, of course this is typical of most of the forums now.

It appears that as the internet thing matures.... it becomes less user friendly.

Hmmm? I guess this is just like life in general... the few bad guys, ruin things for the majority of normal people....Bill? ?

You must still have the 30 weight in and on these chilly mornings, its a long slow crank to get this thing loaded up.? 3 tries this am, navigation cancelled, connectivity problem, and then real slow, with a rough idle, maybe the choke needs checked also.

Me being the only one using it you think it? would be a smoother start and quicker acceleration.? ?

Thought you were gonna look at an upgrade or another platform.?

1/2 a minute to get a page preview, isn't customer friendly.
