Judging and Shows

A suggestioin for the open class,  Our local mopar club has an annual all mopar show but they include jeeps amc and other mopar orphans, even seen a Simca or two.  They have participant judging.  wch entrant is asked to judge the entries in a class different from his or her car is entered in.  So you could do stock, custom or street modified classes and have a best of group as submitted by the other participants. 

It was pretty evident that the folks in Maryland didn't do anything to announce their presece locally.  There wasn't even a banner at the hotel announcing the groups precence.  Even one of those tacky flashing arrow signs a couple days ahead and on the day of the show might bring in some interested parties and generate some walk in business.  You could also do a Peoples choice ballot for the Plymouth cars.  If trophy costs are prohibitive, just a certificate in a folding frame could be effective and printed up after results are tallied.

It will be interesting to see how an opened format will work out.  There is always for the factory perfect cars, but there should be room for those with shallower pockets and different time demands.  And as I mentioned, I would assign some type of premium for a driven car over a trailered one to honor it use as designed. 

Gotta really admire the couple from California that drove ther recently rejuvinated p15 to MD and back to attend the event.  Kudos to them and their P 15.  we did 975 in our to participate, but they are going to be close to 7K.  in a month.

I want to start by complementing Joe Suminsky and his son Chris for working so diligently to provide a complete listing of all Plymouths and the correct class for them to show in.

I also want to say that, in my oppinion, we should not dilute the idea of having original cars as a goal for the association. But, I want you to know that I will never have my car in a position to win, or even place, under the current system of judging. But at the same time I don't feel bad about that. My primary car is a 1930 30U Business Coupe and I am rebuilding it (not restoring it) as a great original car to take to Cruise-ins and local shows just to make people smile and become aware of OLD PLYMOUTHS. I never had a PLymouth, or Chrysler product, until about 5 years ago and didn't know the history of such cars.

It was mentionbed by Catain Neon in the previous tread that the 2010 Summer Meet hosted by the Cascade Pacific Region will have a "POC Judged Show", an "Open Class Plymouth Show" and is planning to have a "Honored Guest" parking area. Our opinion here is that we are in some ways "issolating" ourselves from the general Plymouth community.
We want to expose the general public to the great value and enjoyment they can get by being part of the POC community. As in most regions many of our members have "modified" cars and couldn't expect to do well under the current judging system and therefore don't figure they have a place at our own show. WRONG.

We are trying to involve everybody in our show by doing three things. First: in the POC Show area we intend to have all Plymouths owned by POC members. Some of these, and maybe most, will be "FOR DISPLAY" only. But the point is they are good Plymouths and belong to members. Second: we are going to have an "Open Class PLymouth Show" which can have any Plymouth, be it a driver, a custom or muscle cars owned by those who are not POC members. We haven't yet decided if this show will have placings or awards, or just be a Show. Thirdly: we expect to have this "Honored Guest" parking area for those with -the other maker - cars.

One of our goals with this show is to get the word out to EVERYONE that we are having the show, and we LOVE our cars. We are asking all car clubs in the area to advise any member they have that has a Plymouth that we want them to attend.

To get the word out to the public we are also contacting radio and TV stations to run a spot. I can't think of anything better than to have a TV camera rolling when the cross country tour arrives. Nothing could be better than showing 20+ old Plymouths on the evening news. This then with a segway to tell about the program and show.

Again I want to state that it is not our intention to change or challenge the current judging system, but it is our oppinion that we need, or is it MUST, get the word out to the other Plymouth owners that we exist, and there is a place for them.

P.S. Just advertising our shows in the POC Bulletin has gotten us several calls and presumably will get us some new members.
