Chrome Plate Bumpers

Chrome platers are becoming scarcer in the past twenty years due to EPA regulations.  I had my '57 Belvedere's bumpers and wings re-chromed this past year.  It cost me $2,300.00 and was done with a local chromer.  Results are fantastic. 
I know that chromers in California are restricted on the use of copper plating, so that step is skipped. 
It may take time to research, but in the end that extra time is worth the wait.

The term "Quality and Cheap" is one of those terms that can't be obtained. Chrome plating, more than anything else falls into the category of..... you gets what you pay for. I have found that plating shops that specialize in bumper repairs for body shops usually are the most cost effective, especially if they do bumpers for your favorite body shop on an on going basis.?
If I find myself in a position where I need bumpers and/or other items that require plating, I bide my time looking for the best pieces I can find. Many times I find bumpers, etc, that have good enough plating to be used as is. I recently picked up a a really nice front front bumper for my '48 Dodge on ebay for $113. including shipping. I picked up a nice '47/48 Chevy front bumper complete with all the guards and tips for $175.
In years past I have purchased vehicles just to get good trim pieces. I then switch the parts I want with parts of lesser quality and resell the vehicle.

You might be better off trying to find a set from another '51-52. Re-plating is not cheap and there is absolutely no reason to have a budget replate job when it will look budget, IMO. I have found you get what you pay for and if this is "just" a driver, you obviously don't want a triple-plated chrome job.

The only problem with finding another set, besides dents, etc, is the fact that the '51-52s had such cheap chrome to begin with due the Korean War and they will probably be worn as well.

Anyone know of a quality plater that works cheap?

I am finally finishing up a 4 year restoration of my Blue and Gray '52 Belvedere, and money is beginning to be a serious factor.  I need to have my bumpers re-chromed and am looking for the best price for this driver.  Any recommendations or cautions would be much appreciated.
