1940 Arm Rests

My armrest of cracked in the middle where you would grab ahold of it to pull the door shut.  The metal area where it attaches to the screws in the door is ok..  I may be missing something, but there does't appear to be any metal in the armrest other than where it attaches to the door.

I have a 41 plymouth, I might have extra armrests that need material. I have a question about your armrests. On mine there is a bottom plate that can be removed that releases the material in one piece. If I recall there are two screws holding this plate on. With the material and padding removed, fixing your armrest might be a simple 5 Minute welding job. I think your bracket broke at one of the right angle bends. If the problem isn't there the only other thing it could be would be a striped hole in the door itself. If the hole is bad that can be fixed with a weld or relocating the hole slightly up or down and your armrests should still be good.

 it might be the same as 41, but that is it.  A good substitute is the armrest from 53 -4  but you must install one more caged nut in the door .

you may want to check with Le Baron Bonney in Mass. They have new arm rests cores and can cover them as needed. They may have a match to your measurements or close to them.  I put a set in my '36 and I can't see a difference from the factory photos.

I don't know much about the arm rests for "newer" cars than mine, but u might check the fit of the door and how easliy it latches.  It may have broken from repeated slamming to get the door to shut.  The latch mechanism is easy to get out-sort of- but it may need a little smoothing and lubing.  Then when u find a replacement the same thing won't happen.

My arm rest on the passenger side door of my business coupe is broken.

Is the bolt pattern the same on any other year Plymouths in the '40's and if so, does anyone have one that they would part with?
